Adoption Day

untitled7

I previously shared with everyone in a blog, Baeya’a “Official” Adoption Day that we were headed to the courthouse in Dallas to finalize Baeya’s adoption. Thought I should do a follow-up to let y’all know how things went.

We arrived at the courthouse to meet our attorney that the adoption agency had recommended. When we went into the courtroom the judge entered a few minutes later. He asked everyone to stand and swear that we would all tell the truth. There were several other families there for adoption hearings and more. We were the first to be called up by the judge. Our attorney asked what Nate’s full name was and then proceeded to ask several questions to which Nate answered yes and no. The questions included odd things like, “Do you understand that Baeya will be apart of your family for the rest of your lives?” Ummm. Yea, I think we’ve got that part. And other questions like, ” Have you completed a home study with your adoption agency and passed?” Check. When Nate finished answering the questions, our attorney asked me my full name and if I agreed with all the answers that Nate had given. Once that was over the judge ruled that we were a family and came off the bench to get a pic with us, which was nice and we were told doesn’t always happen.

So now…We are done. Done with seminars, trainings, book reports (yes, this happened), social worker visits (even though we loved her dearly), support groups, doctor reports, and monthly reports. Lucky for us, we have several friends that have adopted and will continue to be as much apart of the adoption community as we can. I believe that adoption is one of the most beautiful physical representations of God’s love and hope that our story, Baeya’s story, will continue to encourage others to consider open adoption and orphan care. Here are some pictures taken by my very dear friend Caroline, who was very brave and brought her camera to the court when we were told it wasn’t allowed. Turns out security let her right through after making her take everything out of her camera bag! She is an amazing birth photographer so just in case you are interested and/or would like to see more of her amazing photographs check out http://www.carolinecarmackblog.com/.

I completely forgot to give credit to my other wonderful friend Elizabeth who took the Easter pictures that were on Baeya’s “Official” Adoption Day and did an awesome job of capturing Owen and Baeya’s personalities. You can check her out on facebook at Simply E3 Photography and Design.

Disneyland

Nate has a short line rail show that he goes to annually and it just so happened to be in San Diego this year. So how could I let him suffer in horrible San Diego all by himself? We planned for me to meet Nate out there and we could have a weekend away. As the show creeped up on us we realized that the rail show was within our 6 month adoption window by one week so we had to change our plans. (We are not allowed to leave Baeya overnight before the adoption is finalized.) So we switched it up and decided to meet Nate in Anaheim and hit up Disneyland. And I am so glad the plans changed. I am pretty sure I had the most fun on our trip. There is absolutely nothing better than seeing your kid so happy. Carsland is at California Adventure Park and if you have spent any time around Owen, you know he carries “Whightning” and “Cisco Nulli” in his hands a good 85% of his days. My parents were able to come with us which made meeting Nate in Orange County a whole lot easier, along with everything else. We were able to use our British Airway points on flights for Owen and I. Our Hilton points covered 2 nights at the hotel, which made the trip a lot less expensive. Yet again, thank you Nate and your points obsession. The day we left, Baeya turned 6 months old which makes her half bday pretty memorable. When Owen turned 6 months we were in Branson, I think Baeya got the better end of that deal. We had an early flight on Friday and were able to hit up Disneyland that day, the next day we went to California Adventure Park, and the third day we took a break and hit up the beach and aquarium.  Our last day we went to Disneyland again, but I wish we had gone to one of the parks the third day for the evening festivities (fireworks). Definitely need to wait until the kids are a little taller to head back and ride the bigger rides, but overall Baeya was able to ride almost every ride that Owen was able to ride. I highly recommend the Buzz Astro Blasters ride and the Toy Story Midway Mania ride, my two favorites. The kids were such troopers. We bought Owen a new Towmater and Lightning McQueen before we left and he played with them in every line waiting on the rides, not complaining once. Baeya did so good sleeping when she could catch a few mins. in the stroller or someone’s shoulder and loved the rides. The time change didn’t even phase them because they were so tired from all the adventures they slept until at least 7 every morning. We had already planned a trip to Disneyworld with my family for next summer and I can’t wait! Grow Owen Grow, I want to ride some more rides, and of course visit Hogwarts! Baeya’s “Official” Adoption Day

IMG_8800

There are things that, like anyone, I thought would definitely happen in my life as I grew up. For example, when I was little I thought I would marry my high school sweetheart (thanks mom and dad), sorry, probably a bad example since this happened, but most of my “plans” for the future changed dramatically during high school and college. Except one thing that was a constant from the time I was little. I wanted to be an adoptive mother. I have written before that this has been something on my heart for many many years. I thought about what it would look like, I thought about the process, and I thought about the kid(s) over and over. Now, today, “officially” I become Baeya’s mom. I have loved every second of the last six months and never considered that Baeya was not “officially” my daughter. In case you haven’t read our story, here is it, Fritzel Number 4

As soon as her birthmother handed Baeya to me and said, “here is your daughter”, that was it. Game over, she was a Fritzel.

Nate and I were talking about how strange it is that we are going to see a judge, who has never met us, so he/she can tell us that we are a family. I mean seriously, that’s old news, haven’t they been reading my blog?! JK. Either way, don’t give Nate and I any reason to celebrate because you know we are going to take you up on it. So we are celebrating God’s perfect plan, connecting us with our ridiculously wonderful daughter and of course, being a family of 4.
I also want to highlight a few milestones in Baeya’s life. She turned 6 months last Friday, went to Disneyland, started eating food 3 weeks ago, and started sitting up 2 days ago (she may still be a bit propped but it still counts). Things I adore about her: she’s stubborn, she has the best laugh, she adores her brother (this is completely mutual), I can tell she’s super smart, and I hate to bring in looks but I mean come on, with those dimples!

I am sure I will post again after our adoption day is done, but until then here are some pics.IMG_8757IMG_8787

Happy Birthday Nate!

IMG_1949bwOwen-1IMG_1912

I was feeling compelled to write a blog today because today is a very special day. I am celebrating because on this day 32 years ago my talented, funny, caring, smart husband was born. There is no other person that can make me as happy (and as mad) as this man. He is greatness. He is a wonderful husband and father and if you are lucky enough to call him a friend he is one of the most loyal and giving friends. So if you happen to run into Nate today, wish him a Happy Birthday because he completely deserves it!

And I always thought it was so funny that Owen is always kissing Baeya’s forehead, guess I know who he gets it from…

Cousins!

My sister, Kristin had a baby girl last month and her name is Madeline (Maddie) June (named after our Grandmother). So of course, we drove down to Austin immediately on hearing she was in labor.
She is beautiful and looks very similar to her big sis, with a tan like her Italian father. We are even more excited because Maddie and Baeya are almost exactly 6 weeks apart. Owen and Ella (the older siblings) are 10 months apart and couldn’t love each other more. So much that they want to be around one another constantly and don’t stop bickering the whole time they are together. It may be more of a brother/sister type relationship. Which brings the cousin number to 3 boys and 4 girls, as I have previously mentioned my brothers children in Meeting Baby Casen we were very excited about this Christmas due to all the kiddos. Baby Casen is now 9 months, his older brother, Brody is the best at letting Owen wrestle him and their older sister, Aubree is the best little mama to all of the tykes. I think after this Christmas my parents are going to try and convince us to cap it at 7 grand kids. We’ll see if that happens…

We were not able to celebrate until just this past weekend, but we had lots of fun with all the kids. We also got to have a photo shoot so more pics to come.
